Reasons to Drive an F-150

Last updated 8 months ago

Since its initial release in 1948, the Ford F-Series has consistently been one of the best-selling lineups in America. The new Ford F-150—its most popular model and the 2009 North American Truck of the Year—has seen some significant improvements in design and performance in the past few years alone. Take a look below to learn why the F-150 will continue its legacy as one of the best values in its segment.

  • Better Performance

To maintain their edge on the competitive full-size truck market, Ford engineers have outfitted the newest F-150 lineup with an array of more powerful and more efficient engine designs. The base 3.7-liter V6 provides 302 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque. Upgraded options include a 5.0-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, and a premium 6.2-liter V8 with 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.

  • Improved Fuel Economy

The purpose of integrating the revolutionary EcoBoost engine—a name used to describe Ford’s new design of twin-turbocharged direct-injection engines—is to provide more power as well as better fuel economy. In a comparison test, the new F-150 EcoBoost blew the competition—and the auto press—away with its superior performance and estimated 16 city/22 highway mpg, proving that bigger displacement isn’t necessarily a replacement for efficient design.

  • Superior APEAL

In the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2011 Automotive Performance Execution and Layout (APEAL) rankings, the Ford F-150 LD placed first above all other leading competitors. The assessment measured overall performance and design, comfort, and other factors in weighing this perennial best-seller against other competitors. The new Ford F-150 is also the highest-ranked large pickup truck in the 2011 Power and Associates Initial Quality Survey (IQS).
